V60 Filter

Always wanted to know how to make a V60 coffee at home? We break it down for you in this simple guide. You’ll learn how to use a V60 filter paper, to nailing the ideal V60 coffee steeping time. A coffee brewing method we love as it typically produces a beautifully clean cup of coffee in a reasonably quick time.

Step 1: Boil your water

Start by boiling your water. Let it sit for a moment so it cools slightly to the optimal brewing temperature—between 92–96°C (198–205°F).

Pro Tip: We recommend using filtered water to bring out the best flavors in your coffee.

Step 2: Rinse the filter & pre-heat your cup

Place your filter paper in the V60 and give it a quick rinse with freshly boiled water. This helps remove any papery taste and opens up the fibers in the paper for better coffee extraction. Pour some hot water into your mug or carafe to preheat it, then discard the water once the vessel is warm.

Pro Tip: Pour-over methods tend to lose a good amount of heat during brewing, so preheating your mug or carafe helps maintain a stable temperature throughout the process.

Step 3: Weigh & grind coffee

Weigh out 16 to 18g of coffee and grind it to a medium consistency—similar to superfine sugar (if it’s not already pre-ground).

Step 4: Bloom the coffee

Place your ground coffee into the filter paper and pour about 45 to 50ml of water over it, making sure to evenly saturate all the grounds. Start your timer as soon as the water touches the coffee.

Did you know? This initial step is called “blooming.” It saturates the coffee grounds, causing them to expand and release CO₂. This helps promote a more even extraction—and ultimately, a better-tasting cup of coffee!

Step 5: Pour & enjoy

Allow the coffee to bloom for 30 seconds, then add the remaining water in two doses of about 100ml each. Pause for 10 seconds between each dose to let some of the water pass through the grounds. While pouring, be sure to maintain a steady, circular motion to agitate the coffee grounds and improve the brewing process.

V60 Coffee

Created by Japanese company Hario in 2004, the V60 was designed to offer a more refined, hands-on brewing experience. It’s a great introduction for anyone who wants full control over their coffee extraction process. Innovative and versatile, this method lets you perfect your pour by adjusting grind size, coffee dose, water temperature, and brew time. With a bit of practice, you can craft a cup that’s tailored exactly to your taste. Now let’s brew the perfect cup—Mozzo style.

Personalize your cup of coffee:

Adjusting the grind size and dose can bring out different flavors in your brew. Here are a few tips to help you dial it in:

  • Adjust your grind: A coarser grind will give you a lighter-bodied brew, while a finer grind creates a fuller-bodied cup.

  • Adjust your dose: Changing the amount of coffee you use lets you control the strength—use more for a bolder cup or less for a lighter one.
